Accommodation in Cuba

There are plenty of "resorts" in Cuba, where foreign tourists often go, but experience little of the real Cuba as a result. A popular alternative is to stay at the many "Casa Particulars", state approved bed and breakfast accommodation throughout the country. The great thing about this approach is that you get to meet real Cuban people in their own homes. Cubans are naturally very hospitable people and for me it's one of the things that makes a holiday on the island so special. Here's the details for three of the Casa's we stayed at:

Vinales Casa
Xiomara Duarte
Orlando Nodarse No 50
Vinales, Pinar del Rio, Cuba
Tel: 048 696903

We stayed at Xiomara's for three days and had a great time there. She is a superb cook and they are wonderful, relaxed hosts. Her visitor book is packed full of glowing praise from visitors from all over the world and rightly so. If you plan a holiday in the Vinales get in touch with Xiomara first. The Vinales is for you if you are a fan of stunning scenery, and the village itself is picturesque and relaxed.

Casa 1932
Campanario No 63 (bajos)
e/ San Lazaro y Lagunes
Centro Habana. cuba
Tel: (537) 863 6203

Proprietor - Luis Miguel
Email: casa1932lm@yahoo.com

Amazingly, Luis' family have lived in this house since it was built in 1932! On the outside you have the hustle and bustle of an Old Havana street but once inside Case 1932 is a beautifully furnished haven of peace. Luis speaks excellent English as well and will make you very welcome.

Villa Duque
Finca San Andres
Cayajabos
Artemisa
La Habana
Cuba
Proprietor: Marta Duque

Villa Duque is just 2km from the Las Terrazas resort in the hills about 40km west of Havana. My spanish is poor but I think about 4 generations of the family live here! Lovely people, very welcoming.
