1950's Chevrolet in Old Havana

Welcome to our mad bike ride in Cuba!

This website has been set up to show the photographs taken in June 2007 by Colin MacDonald along with mate Rupert Blomfield on a week's cycling trip in glorious Cuba. I still can't believe the wives actually allowed us to go, but I think the crafty devils might be hatching a rather expensive shopping trip, knowing full well there isn't much we can say about it, what's the world coming to? Anyway, we started the bike ride in Havana on 14th June and got as far as the magnificent Vinales region two days later, 150 miles to the west of Havana. Please see the route page for more details. Most of the site is simply a photo gallery but if you are considering a trip to Cuba then please take a look at our accommodation page, which lists some of the "Casa Particulars" we stayed at. These are basically state-approved bed and breakfast accommodation which many people believe is the best way to stay in Cuba, as you will meet some very warm, hospitable people this way. We were made very welcome in Cuba and never once did we feel it was in any way unsafe. If you are considering a bike ride in Cuba, do take your own bikes, we made the mistake of hiring what were described as "hybrid" bikes, but they turned out to be old mountain bikes with road tyres on! It is a hassle taking your own bike on a plane because you have to virutally dismantle it, but taking your own bike is still the best bet for a successful bike ride. So enjoy the photos and feel free to contact me if I can help in any way if you are planning a cycling trip to Cuba, or simply to comment on the photos!
